Reading Crisis

"For decades, Massachusetts has been a leader in education, yet today, a quiet crisis is unfolding in our classrooms. As of 2025, only 42% of 3rd graders in the Commonwealth are meeting reading expectations. For students in under-resourced districts, that number is even more staggering.

In response, the 2026 Right to Read Act (S.2924) has mandated a shift to 'Science of Reading'- a proven, phonics-based approach that actually works. But while the law has changed, the shelves haven't. Teachers are now required to teach using methods they don't have the physical books to support. We are here to bridge that 'resource lag' and put the right books in the right hands, right now."
